Soo...I still don't understand what this thing is about? Do you just provide updates on what you're doing, see what other people are doing? I don't get it? Whatever it is, I have an account now! LOL! Not sure what I'm going to do with it though. It may take me few weeks, months, or whenever to figure out what info I intend to "tweet"...
Anyhow... like the saying goes, follow me on twitter @tashapowell ...
Falling in love all over again has to be one of the most amazing feelings. Especially when it's something that you've been pushing away, and you knew you really couldn't do without, but somehow always knows to sneak back into your life. I really look at it, no one was trying to break us apart; it was just all in my mind. I let "thinking" get in the way.....After a lot of going back and forth, tears, outlashing, and literally going out of my mind, I've come to the realization that this love will never die. It is when we are together that I am my truest, most authentic self. It's taken me on highs that seem like they were never possible.
YES...we will go through our ups and downs, but I'm ready to do so...As long as the ups and downs are with you, nothing else matters..
I'm probably the biggest loser by saying this, but I'm absolutely in LOOOOVEEEEE with the Rocky Series! I know, I know there are some parts that are cheezy, some may say that Stallone is a bad actor, but the intensity and the whole story behind Rocky is so exciting to me! Rocky 4 (when he fights the the Russian) is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!! Take in the training that he goes through!!
Anyhow! The other night I watched Rocky Balboa (the last of the series) and the conversation that he has with his son when he's deciding to fight one last fight really got to me. He said:
Let's stop feeling sorry for ourselves, and lets stop expecting others to feel sorry for us! Always remember that whether you believe you can, or whether you believe that you can't, either way you're right!
The best feeling for me is knowing that I've had an affect on someone else's life. Whether it's with a friend or a complete stranger, we are meant to share what it is we have with others, and continue to pay it forward. This is a message from a close friend of mine about a blog that he wrote:
"Hey I made a post on my blog and I thought you might like to read it:
A New Me New is probably the wrong adjective to use. I would have to say redefined or updated better suits this Noyze. I recently returned from my three week vacation to Tdot. Everyone kept asking me "how is this a vacation?" I understand why they asked since all I did was party, eat, and dance. But no work, school, or home equals vacation to me. I met sooooooo many people. Networking was definately the T. Plenty of dancers and mad people I've looked up to. The whole trip was just a huge inspiration. Plus i got to chill wit my homegirls and get much needed advice and guidance, as well as go in with the "girls" every nite. LOL we were an organized mess. It was really a hard decision to decide to come back home or stay there but I decided to return since I had already made a bunch of commitments and lined up some opportunities. I figure its for the better because I still have yet to let myself grow in the way I want to before I leave here to pursue more. And that's what this time here is for.
My girl Teasah had a little sit down with me and we just talked about everything we are both aiming to do. She's such an inspiration to me and its a bit of a blessing to receive guidance from someone like her. Just as planned stuff is really starting to fall into place. Steady job Monday - Friday mornings is bomb. Dancing almost every day resulting in paid gigs is boss. Actually enjoying what I'm doing.... there're no words for that. My dance crew is really a cool lil family I love our dynamic, and thers big plans for us....I may not be around to see the end result of many depending on how soon my move happens but at least I get to help as much as I can.
The rest of this year I'm really going to focus on me. You may say "isn't that a little selfish?" No bitch its not. I feel better about cussing at you 'cause I know that nobody actually reads this. I'm done worrying about doing this and that for other people or worrying how what I do will affect them. I'm living with what they do, so they can return the sentiment. I realize now that I have to be more patient with the people that really do matter, and just take the fakes for face value. For those that do matter, don't take my being blunt as an offense. It mostly means I'm mad comfortable with you so I'm not going to sugar coat shit. I'm not one to really care what people say about me, because if they gonna hype about something and they always bin a bitch then hey, its to be expected. On the flip side, if they a sweet biscuit to my face and act real down then turn 'round an chat chat chat....not even going to check for you again. Of course I'm always going to find my share of mix up, but what's the flight without a little turbulence? Perfect was never fun
Wowsers!! Sooo... in an effort to get back to into top shape, I've jumped on the P90X band-wagon!! My mom and my brother were the one's to get me on it! I've had the DVD's for a while but I hadn't made the full commitment to it...until now! I'm putting it out to the universe! I'm going to achieve my goal to be in the best shape I've ever been in! I've decide to go with the Lean workout because I'm more interested in weight loss and a leaner build, rather than gaining more muscle. So that meant starting with Core Synergistics, and did I ever get my but kicked! But in a good way! I'm excited to get better by the week and to see the results!
Wow, where has the summer gone!?! August has been pretty interesting in SOOOO many ways! The highlight for me was to have the opportunity to attend the Elite Locking Camp in Las Vegas this year! Words cannot describe what it felt like to be the presence of The Original Lockers Greg Campbellock Jr and Fluky Luke, as well as Sugar Foot, and Sundance. So humble, with so much to share. There were participants from Japan, Sweden, Israel, Canada, Russia, Germany, and other parts of the United States to attend this event! I only started locking in 2008, and I have to say, that of all the dance styles I've learned and trained in, Locking has been THE HARDEST ONE FOR ME!!! The vocabulary of this style is so large, and you really have to pay attention to the details! The Lock, Which-A-Ways, Damita, Stop N' Go, The Handshake, Wrist Rolls, Points, Texas Hop, Speed Locking, Rock Steady, and the list goes on!!! I could go on forever about talking about everything I learned that weekend, but I think the most important things I learned are the history of the dance, and to just be myself! Identifying who you are, being comfortable with yourself, and not being afraid to go out there and commit yourself 100%. For so long, I've been in hiding as dancer; putting myself out there just enough to get by. But I've come to realize I haven't even scratched the surface in terms of my capabilities! The opportunities are endless and with me and dance and I can't wait to explore them all!
Myself & Fluky Luke
Me and My girl KIM!!
Me and Sugar Foot
On day two we had Special Guest Legendary from the Soul Brothers! OG in Hip Hop dance!! He came with the swag, the character, and my favorite....PARTY DANCE!!! This class was my WORLD!! LOL! I can't say how important it is for us dancers, ESPECIALLY those who consider themselves "Hip Hop" dancers, to really sit down and know the history of this dance, and of any street dance in general. For us to progress and move forward, we need to know where these moves came from, and what the style really and truly is!
Then there was Bootcamp with Fred Realness!!! He put us in to shape alright! I know I'm guilty of not doing enough strength training as a performer, but Fred explained to us that there are bio-mechanics involved in what we do, from doing drops to coming back up! He gave some really great exercises to strengthen those parts of the body that will help us have longer and healthier lives and carreers as dancers!
Thank you so much to my Locking family for making this weekend the most intense and challenging weekend in dance I've ever had. It's been a minute since I've been around a REAL group of dancers with such positivity radiating from themselves and out to others. Like Greg says, "Locking is not a battle dance, it's a LOVE dance!", and I could definitely feel the love that whole weekend! I cannot wait until next year to do it all over again!
Check out this video that my homeboy David put together for the weekend!!
"It's not about the battle, It's about SHOWTIME!" Greg Campbellock Jr.
It's been while, I know, just trying to enjoy the summer as much as I can, rain and all! The past few days I've been fiddling with my computer trying to figure out how to download this commercial I shot 2 years. After much fussing, I finally got it! A commercial I shot for Sylvan Learning Centre! Was lots of fun shooting, the cast was great! I'm on the very left side of the screen in the intro and the at the end as well!!
2 Corinthians 5:7 "for we walk by faith, not by sight".
Faith: the confident belief or trust in the truth of our trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
A close friend of mine brought this to my attention, and the minute they said it, I applied to everything that is currently going on in my life. Imagine if we determined our lives based on our material surroundings? Imagine we believed all the things that we are told, about who were, what we are worth, and what we deserve? This challenges us to take our journeys in directions that may be uncomfortable for us because we cannot see it. The more we take on this challenge, is the more we understand that having faith will take us to where it is we wish to be.
I think I'm still waiting for CNN to say that Michael Jackson is not dead. But as the days go by, it starts to hit me more and more, that the greatest of all time has gone on to another place. Words cannot describe the impact that this man has made on my life.
As an artist, the boundaries he broke, the records that he made, paved the way for all entertainers today, hands down. Whenever I've watched his videos Beat It, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Thriler, I always say to myself, Ï'm born in the wrong generation. I wanna dance like THAT!!! Like him! With HIM!" I feel like it is now my duty to continue what Michael gave to our generation, not just as an artist, but as a humanitarian, and a human being.
They say it's darkest before the dawn. Now he can truely be at peace. But he still lives and will always live in me. Long live the KING....
All of the people in this clip, despite the people who told them that they wouldn't make it, had great and memorable careers in their field of work; each created their own formula for success...
As some of you may know, while I was living out in Vancouver, I had the privilege to work on Nickelodeon movie called Spectacular! starring Nolan Gerard Funk and Tammin Sursok (Colleen from Y&R). The movie was Nickelodeon's call to Disney's High School Musical which hit the mark with all the tweens!
I must say it's not a half bad movie, and I'm not saying that because I was in it. The acting wasn't cheesy; we didn't just bust out into song and dance at any given moment. Still a tween movie, but something that the whole family can watch; at least in my opinion!
This was my first experience working on a movie as a dancer and the memories of those months will always be with me forever! I had the opportunity to work with RJ Durrell ( one of Madonna's choreographers) and the lovely Miss Kelly Konno!!!!! If you're a dancer, and you don't know who she is, all I can say is do your research! One of my idols as I grew up DREAMING of being a pro dancer one day!!
Go out and buy the DVD!!! No need for me to tell you what scenes I'm in; you'll know when you watch it!!
